SENS, Inc. offers a low-cost solution for transforming time-based diaper management to information-based approach. Manufacturers of absorbent garments can now integrate within their products an inexpensive network of passive detectors that will enable remote monitoring of the garment’s saturation level.



The SENS system can monitor different areas of the garment independently, and the saturation level of each area is considered with respect to the level of other areas to determine if the absorbent garment is capable of retaining additional excretion.



For pennies a day, users of absorbent garments can now gain unparalleled degree of peace of mind and ease the emotional and social burden of urinary incontinence. Family members or caretakers that cater to an elderly or bed-bound person can reduce substantially the time and efforts required for diaper management while still avoiding the risk of skin breakdown.





The concept was developed with the input from several nursing facilities, among them a geriatric hospital of 800 beds. Professionals of different branches in those institutes presented diverse objectives. Their most important requirements were:



Physicians would like not to disturb, at night, a sleeping person if a change can be postponed.



· Nursing staff asked for a way to check for diapers’ content without removing gloves. This is even more important to them when frequent checks are required due to a possibility of a patient developing dehydration or fluid retention.



· Administrators’ main goal is to insure compliance with regulations and quality of service by providing supervisors with a tool to verify that an absorbent garment was actually changed and not only reported as such.



· They all agreed that a remote saturation indicator would provide for a more dignified care for the patients.



Saturation-monitoring Network 被动感应网络




The core of the SENS system is an inexpensive, disposable network of detectors, environmentally friendly.



The number of moisture detectors, their locations in the article, specific sensitivity of each detector, its relative importance and priority are a function of the product design, intended application and desired features.



No risk of toxicity or skin irritation. Network makes no contact with the skin nor is there contact between conductors and urine.



Inexpensive raw materials, simplicity of design, and no external electrical connections = low incremental production costs when adding the SENS Saturation Monitoring Network to an absorbent. The net result: flexibility in pricing strategies.

Remote Saturation Monitor 遥控感应器



A small handheld monitor reads in parallel the status of all detectors and analyzes overall saturation level. The reading is done in a split second, through clothing and/or blankets, and results are discreetly displayed.



The depicted hand held monitor is one of several product architectures that were developed to enable monitoring of saturation level. The monitoring device analyzes the extracted data and can indicates one of the following four options:


· Dry;

· Wet 1 - a scheduled change can be skipped; 湿度1-可以到下一周期更换;

· Wet 2 - a change can not be postponed for next scheduled change; 湿度2-不能延到下一个周期更换;

· Wet 3 – immediate change is required. 湿度3-需要立即更换;
